StarCraft: Brood War for Mac OS is an add-on to the original StarCraft strategy game that adds new campaigns that continue the story of the original game and show what happened after the main story ended. In addition to the plot, the innovations also affected other areas of the game, from units to music. The add-on was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment and was released on November 30, 1998.
Game process
First of all, it is worth noting the emergence of three new campaigns for each of the unique races that are very different from each other. These races bring new strategies and gameplay styles to the player, refreshing the mechanics of the original game.
The end goals and methods of play have not changed, but the prices of in-game items and the balance of power have been corrected. The main goal of the developers was to weaken the popular and become common game strategies, as well as to come up with and update new ones, thereby expanding the possibilities of the players.
The next major innovation was the correction of artificial intelligence, which made computer players smarter, faster and stronger, which, in the end, led to an increase in the average level of the game and allowed them to hone their skills on the games with the computer.
StarCraft: Brood War on Mac OS also introduces new characters to explain open issues and enhance the game's atmosphere. It should be noted that the complexity of the expansion turned out to be more difficult than the original game. To diversify the original version and add several hours of play, the Download add-on is worth it.
Plot
Brood War takes place in the StarCraft universe two years after the main campaign. After the death of the leader of the insect-like zerg, new attempts to establish power over the Swarm appear, which the defenders of Earth are concerned about. Eventually, to eliminate the threat and stabilize the situation, the Directorate dispatches an expeditionary force to the Koprulu sector.
The plot itself is divided into three episodes, each of which reveals the history of the playable races. The fourth episode reveals the campaign of the protoss, their journey and battle with the zerg, in the fifth episode - the history of people, their development and attempts to establish their own power over the Swarm, without resorting to its destruction, but, nevertheless, leveling the potential threat to the planet. The sixth episode explains the story of the zerg from the perspective of the protagonist and Sarah Kerrigan, where the player's actions are mixed, very different from the goals of the previous episodes, but at the same time, ambiguous.
