The plot of XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Mac OS begins with an attack by alien creatures. To confront the aliens, the XCOM squad is convened, which has in its arsenal only advanced technologies, the best weapons, as well as nuclear and chemical weapons. This squad includes only the best soldiers from all over the world. The XCOM team is obliged to protect the civilians of the Earth from the invasion of alien beings. But, despite the high-quality weapons, the level of technology in UFOs is much higher.
At the beginning of the game, the gamer who decided to Download it has his own XCOM base. But, unlike the previous version of the game, the base can be located exclusively in a given location. The previous game allowed you to build a base on any continent. Some of the useful rooms have already been built, the rest of the departments need to be developed as you progress through the story. Premises already built: laboratory, workshops, barracks and hangars, operational and command centers. These buildings cannot be demolished or moved. But the base can be expanded in the resulting voids. New buildings can be demolished by replacing them with new buildings.
Be careful with the location of the base, additional advantages depend on this factor, starting from the very start of the game. For example: the flow of funds, the cost of building buildings, the availability of equipment in the laboratory and workshops, methods of studying captured aliens, discounts on the purchase of new technologies, improvements for the maintenance of the base. When entering XCOM: Enemy Unknown for the first time, the player receives an initial bonus, which depends on the location of the base. The rest of the bonuses are unlocked as the land is covered by special satellites on other continents.
The central base allows the leadership of the entire military organization. New satellite networks allow tracking the movements of aliens throughout the location. The player needs to carefully plan the distribution of allocated funds for the development of laboratories, the purchase of weapons that help track flying saucers, and to fight aliens in military clashes.
In comparison with the previous part for Mac OS, the gamer has a limited freedom of action when controlling the aircraft. There is only one landing ship and cannot be upgraded. In addition, it is exclusively available at the central base. Interceptor fighters can be used on the rest of the continents. They can also be deployed at the main base to systematically defend the continent. As a result, 20 fighters and 1 paratrooper will become available.
