Review

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is a mix of first person shooter, adventure and stealth action. The project was a success on Mac OS, was inspired by sci-fi films, and the role of the convict is played by Vin Diesel.

The film of the same name became the inspiration for the creation of the game. This is a fantastic story about a prisoner who can see in the dark and finds himself in the middle of an intergalactic war.

The outlaw Riddick fell into the hands of the bounty hunter Jones, and is slowly but surely taken to a well-guarded prison called Butcher's Cove. Its purpose is clear from the name of the game - to escape at any cost and by any means. No one has escaped from Butcher's Bay before, but the protagonist is not going to put up with it. Especially when the despotic warden Abbott and packs of competitors from the ranks of the prisoners are breathing in the back. Riddick's computer adventure is self-sufficient and knowledge of the plot of the film is not required to complete. Fans of the film will surely appreciate those few scenes mentioned in the film, while the rest will not lose anything.

Escape From Butcher Bay is a mix of many types of action games. Together they form a unique blend of brutal combat, stealth, melee combat and even robot gunfights or puzzles in the style of the original Tomb Raider. Riddick faces all kinds of obstacles in his path and overcomes them with difficulty. Film adaptations are often doomed to fail, but each rule has its exceptions. The developers have also really successfully ported the original game to Mac OS and added a lot to it in the Developer's Cut version.

The game embodies the authors' determination to make something special and unique out of it at every stage. Detailing and meticulousness do their job. All three compartments of the space prison are inhabited by comrades in misfortune who either made friends with Riddick and help him, or are afraid of him, or try to kill him on the spot. Each character is unique, individually modeled and named, no soulless clones. Unlike most modern games, there is no distinctive HUD here. The screen is blank and, combined with the smoothly moving picture in the rhythm of breathing, allows the player to immerse themselves in the gameplay in a unique way. There is also no crosshair. The only way to get it back is to learn how to use laser sights and flashlights mounted on weapons. Health is also not displayed numerically, only as a pair of white squares that appear in the upper left corner of the screen during combat.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is a great game with a few minor flaws that can easily be overlooked in the context of its many thoughtful features. This is one of the best combinations of genres ever to hit the market and definitely worth download.
