Sonic Mania is a re-release of the Sonic platformer created by Christian Whitehead and released in 2017.

The developers had to remake the classic platformer popular in those years. The game is difficult, but interesting, therefore it attracted a considerable number of fans.

Gameplay

The project on Mac OS is a platformer where you need to neutralize enemies and avoid traps. This re-release includes not only updated textures, but also the addition of abilities to each of the heroes. Knuckles breaks stone obstacles, slides through the air and can cling to walls, climb up and down them. Tails flies with a double tail, swims, and can also carry Sonic during flight. Both get tired after 10 seconds and lower their altitude. And the blue hedgehog has the ability to curl up into a ball and quickly rotate forward, destroying opponents. By picking up various shields (electric, fire and water), opportunities are added. For each, unique levels are created, tied to the abilities of one of the three echidnas.

In Sonic Mania, there are bonus modes that are activated when collecting 25 rings and finding a special checkpoint. The user who clicked Download the game will be moved to a mini-game, where they have to pick up blue and colorless spheres with yellow stars inside. You cannot go through balls, red shell or stars. The former will automatically count as defeat, and the latter will push the player away. The main task is to get to a certain object. Depending on the result, a reward is issued that affects all types of unlocks.

Plot

The original "Mania" is about Eggman's revenge. The heroes discover the Angel Island signal. Since they did not have time to arrive on their homeland before the villain, they will be teleported to Green Hill, and the enemy's servants will become stronger - they are now called Hard Boiled Heavies.

A second mode is also available - "Encore". Classic Sonic returns to his island and finds Mighty and Rey in a capsule. The player has a choice that will affect the transformation of one of them into Heavy Magical, which will revive the robots.

Otherwise, the user in Sonic Mania for Mac OS is waiting for both old and new locations, passing through which it will be possible to learn more and more about the plot. The player will have to go through both old and completely new places, made in a three-dimensional style, but reminiscent of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog.
