Hearts of Iron IV: Ironclad is a global strategy game with an emphasis on historical battles. The fourth part of the series for Mac OS focuses on the events of the Second World War. The user chooses the state he wants to control during hostilities, takes actions that can lead him to victory over other states. Powerful countries, that is, the USSR, the USA, Japan and others, have unique, not similar to other development trees. Add-ons can add pumping branches for most other countries that are smaller in territory and power of combat power (Netherlands, Mexico, Czechoslovakia and others).

Subsequently, the elections during the gameplay, the territory begins to adhere to one of the 4 ideologies of that time: fascism, democracy, communism or refusal to participate in hostilities. Each ideology affects the country in different ways. Democracies and neutral states can declare war only with the help of a pretext for it (this happens only when there is confrontation in the world and conflicts flare up). Their difference from the fascists and communists is that the latter can start a war at any time.
