Quake III Arena for Mac OS is more than enough for everything you'd expect from a multiplayer shooter: a variety of sometimes intimidating maps (or arenas), weapons you've never seen before, a variety of characters to choose from at the start of the game. This is not just an action game, the game is really brutal, there is a lot of blood in it. There is no plot or campaign here. In return, you get levels for killing enemies, even positions and titles (something like medals).
At the beginning of the game, you need to create your profile and select a character. You can set the difficulty of the game, but only before the match. There are enough cards in the game, but not all of them are available from the very beginning.
Different types of characters are available in the game: robots, alien creatures, soldiers, demons and ordinary people. They all differ only externally, their abilities and characteristics are identical. There are enough weapons in the game, but, of course, fewer than the types of characters. All types of weapons have their own tactical purpose, pros and cons. For example, the plasma gun is fast-firing, but the speed of the plasma clots is slow. The rocket launcher allows you to make rocket jumps and, at the cost of your own health, climb to inaccessible peaks. The most powerful weapon - the railgun - kills with one hit to any part of the body, but the trail from the projectile gives out the position of the shooter, so if you miss, it's better to immediately look for a new cover.
You can also play practice matches by choosing any card and setting the number of enemies and kills required to win.
Quake III Arena on Mac OS includes two game modes: single player and multiplayer. In single player, you play against bots controlled by artificial intelligence, and in multiplayer, you play against friends or random players on selected maps. In multiplayer mode, you can create your own server, using the program or online, you first need to Download the game.
The promotion system in a single is similar to that in fighting games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken. Each level has four maps on which enemies will be waiting for you. The first three maps are a general deathmatch, and the fourth is actually a duel with the level boss. You fight one on one, and these duels are always difficult. There are seven levels, which means about thirty cards in total. This may sound like a lot, but you have to understand that Quake is a card game. Expect fast and dynamic battles because the enemy limit is small, usually 10 to 20.
